Confronting the ‘Elephant in the Room’—Mental Health.

“It’s Okay Not to Be Okay. Mental Health is a Journey of Self-Discovery and Growth.”

This World Mental Health Month, let’s come together to talk about mental health and remind everyone that it matters. Conversations about mental health can help us navigate life’s ups and downs, making a real difference in our well-being.

According to a 2023 survey, nearly half of Singaporeans (46%) believe mental health is the biggest health issue facing the country today. Additionally, 49% have felt depressed to the point of hopelessness for weeks at a time. In the past year, 20% have experienced this multiple times. Furthermore, 27% have seriously considered suicide or self-harm, with 26% of those under 35 having considered it at least once (IPSOS, 2023).

As we move through this month, Ellie, our mascot, will journey across Singapore to remind us of the ‘elephant in the room’—the mental health issues that are often overlooked.

Ellie’s journey includes:

  • 19th September: Ellie at Northland Primary School
  • 5th October: Ellie at President’s Challenge @ NCCS
  • 12th October: Ellie at Frontier Family Medicine @ Macpherson

Let’s take this opportunity to check in with friends, family, peers, and colleagues—not just in October, but beyond. Together, we can prioritise mental health and create a supportive environment for everyone.
