OUR BOARD OF ADVISORS
The Shan You Counselling Centre is
proud to introduce our Board of Advisors who work
closely with our Clinical Director to provide our team
of psychologists and counsellors expert advice on (i)
the development of clinical skills, (ii) the delivery of
clinical programmes and services to the community and
(iii) the conceptualisation and implementation of the
latest model of mental health services that incorporates
mind-body medicine techniques. With the support of our
accomplished and committed Advisors, Shan You has in the
past year contributed to the community by integrating
mind-body medicine research in our public education
activities and direct services, thus enhancing the
physical, mental and emotional well-being of all our
service users.
WHO THEY ARE AND THEIR VISION FOR SHAN YOU
|
I am a Hawaii licensed Clinical
Psychologist, member of the American Psychological
Association, registered member with the Singapore
Register of Psychologists and Vice-president of
Singapore Society of Clinical Hypnosis. I have 20
years of clinical experience in providing
psychotherapy and psychological assessment to
individuals of all ages with various problems and am
experienced in mental retardation and hypnosis. My
contribution to Shan You’s mind-body programmes will
be in providing consultation in the use of hypnotic
techniques and hypnosis-related issues. I would like
to see Shan You continue to flourish as a leading
organization in mind body medicine in the following
ways: (i) more collaborations with medical specialty
areas; (ii) facilitating various self help groups;
(iii) becoming the place for the treatment of
mind-body related problems;
(iv)
planning and organizing conferences/workshops for
experts in mind-body medicine to share their
knowledge and research.

I was
trained in Psychiatry in the United Kingdom and
have a private practise. The connection between
physiological and psychological changes in our
body has been well established. However, this
interaction has not always been emphasized by
the mental health professionals. Hence, I am
very pleased to learn of Shan You Counselling
Centre's mission and vision to develop this
particular area of specialty. It is my pleasure
to be given this opportunity to participate in
the development of Mind-Body Medicine with the
Clinical Team of professionals from Shan You
Counselling Centre.
Dr
Lionel Chee Cheong Lim
MBBS, PhD(Lond), FRCPsych
(UK), FAMS, Consultant Psychiatrist in Private
Practice.

Dissertation Research Award from the
American Psychological Association in 1992 and
the Award for Outstanding Contribution to
Psychology in Singapore from the Singapore
Psychological Society in 2005. I hope to be
able to help Shan You to advance its use of
mind-body medicine through my contributions in
the field of research to extend the scientific
and evidence-based approaches to mind-body
medicinein the local cultural arena.

With its professional and
spiritual background, Shan You has been in the
best position to promote mindfulness in a
clinical manner in the local region. It has
been my honour to be able to support Shan You in
the overall conceptualising, designing and
delivering of mindfulness and mind-body medicine
activities for the general public as well as
professionals including family physicians. As a
clinical psychologist and practitioner in
clinical hypnosis, I have been assisting Shan
You to advance its mental health services with
evidence-based mind-body skills for physical,
mental and even spiritual wellness. To provide
the best social services possible, Shan You will
continue to develop progressively more advanced
educational activities and publications along
with cutting-edge direct services.
Dr
Lim Kok Kwang
PhD (Clinical
Psychology), Life Fellow (AAIM), Diplomate (IABMCP),
Registered Psychologist (Singapore), Founding

I was trained in General
Psychiatry, and then sub-specialized in Child,
Adolescent and Family Psychiatry. With the
advancement of the technology of modern medical
treatment, we should also enhance the
integration of psychosocial and emotional
aspects of treatment, e.g., through mind-body
medicine. My personal view on what I would like
to see Shan You Counselling Centre do in the
next 10 years is that Shan You create and become
a mass movement for self and mutual help, care
and empowerment in people's life throughout
their life-span. The community would then be
able to integrate these practices into their
daily lifestyle.
Dr Ng Koon Hock
MBBS, MMED (Psychiatry),
Child and Family Psychiatrist.
Consultant Psychiatrist in Private Practice and
Visiting Psychiatrist at KK Children’s Hospital.

I am trained as a dentist,
practised for a year then went on to become an
academic with a medical department. I hope to
provide support to Shan You Counselling Centre
to reach out to more of the community of all
races and religion, to run more centres and to
even possibly run family service centres. I’d
like to see Shan You develop beyond just
providing counselling and reach out to the
community in increasing their quality of life.
Dr Ng Yee Kong

Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine,
